In most cases, an effective estate plan involves the creation and administration of one or more trusts, including family trusts, marital trusts, insurance trusts and charitable trusts. H.M. Payson & Co. has provided such trust services for generations of Maine families.

As a state-chartered trust company, we offer the same trust services as larger financial institutions, but with a more personalized touch. By naming us as trustee, you can have confidence that we will be there for future generations, as you intended when planning your estate.

As trustee, we bring our investment discipline to the management of trust assets, within the framework of each trust's objectives. In many cases, we are able to assist in the design of the trust vehicle, bringing an investment perspective to the planning process. We then carry out the role of fiduciary in administering the trusts for the benefit of family members or charities named as beneficiaries.

We work closely with co-trustees (often other professionals or family members) and maintain regular contact with beneficiaries to effectively carry out the intended purposes of the trust.
