The Managing Directors of HM Payson are pleased to announce that Edward Demetriou, Esq., has joined the Firm as a Portfolio Manager. Edward holds the designation of Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and, in addition to his other responsibilities, will help build the Firm’s platform for investment in alternative asset classes on behalf of our clients.

Edward joins HM Payson after leading the private equity program at the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (“MainePERS”). A lawyer by training and practice, Edward began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Hon. Howard H. Dana, Jr. (Ret.) at the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. He subsequently practiced corporate law at Preti Flaherty in Portland, ME, and Proskauer Rose in Boston, MA, ultimately specializing in representing private equity funds and institutional investors in capital formation and investments globally. After returning to Maine, Edward built a law practice specializing in secondary transactions of private equity interests at Furman Gregory Deptula. Through his law practice, Edward received the opportunity to transform his private equity legal experience into a senior investment management role at MainePERS to help build its private equity program. Edward is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst and a member of the board of directors of Rippleffect. Edward grew up in England and came to the United States for university, graduating with an AB from Dartmouth College and a JD from Vermont Law School. He is an avid masters rower and enjoys skiing, sailing, biking, and hiking. He lives in Falmouth, ME, with his wife, Emily, and their two boys, ages 10 and 7.
